Our Mission

The mission of Spellbook Games is to publish unique RPG products, focused on the classic Dungeons and Dragons gamer and Games Master, at a fair price. We will help to maintain the ideas and traditions of the game's founders for those that remember them, and pass them on to the next generation of players and game masters.

Spellbook Games, Our Story

Spellbook Games has its roots in the creation of our upcoming signature product Inferno, which is a reimagining of a classic module written many years ago by our founder and lead writer, Paul Elkmann. Paul finds himself traveling weeks a year and now writes RPG rules, worlds, and modules at night for his own entertainment. With the growth of the internet, Paul discovered and connected with fans of the original Inferno, who strongly urged finishing Inferno. So, for two years Paul worked on reimagining, rewriting, and finishing Inferno, until in 2007 it was complete, then failed to find a publisher. Several factors led to the formation of Spellbook Games in September 2009, including interest in Inferno material, our purchase in 2009 of rights to the original Inferno text, the success of the Fight On! magazine to which Paul regularly contributes, and Eric's graduation from college, bringing the skill set needed to make the media possible. It is Eric who pushed hardest for publishing Inferno and who formed the art team to make it possible. Now, in March 2010, we bring you Spellbook Games.

Paul Elkmann

Paul Elkmann, aka Geoffrey O. Dale, is head writer and managing partner of Spellbook Games. He started playing Dungeons and Dragons at college in 1976, and started writing for the Judges Guild company in 1979, contributing to its magazine and authoring two published game modules. Returning to gaming in the early 2000's, he has written extensively and regularly contributes to Fight On! magazine. He also plays strategic board games, especially Diplomacy, and is an avid card, backgammon and chess player.

Paul currently hangs out near Fort Worth, Texas, after lengthy stints in several Midwestern states. Aside from gaming he has more than 27 years of professional experience in radiation protection and emergency planning, at the industry, state, and federal levels. Other interests include more than 27 years in Scouting, science-fiction literature, camping, cooking, and genealogy.

Eric Elkmann

Eric Elkmann is the second partner of Spellbook games, the tech head, and the brains of the operation. He graduated from Full Sail University on June 5th 2009 with a Bachelor of Science in Digital Arts & Design. He is somewhat of a jack of all trades and has had a broad range of training in subjects ranging from digital media production to wilderness survival.

Eric's character is an intesely overpowered drunken paladin of Baccus, who is more than ready to take advantage of his deity's neutral status and smite any foe, no matter if they are tecnically the bad guys. He is consistently jovial, lewd, and just the kind of crazy you want on your side in a fight. He will also usually pull the rope to see what happens.
